Illinois Ditches the Gov

January 29th, 2009. Filed under: This & That.

Breaking news alerts have come in from both The New York Times and The Washington Post. I think we all pretty much knew what would happen with Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich.  Without a dissenting vote, the Illinois State Senate found him guilty of abuse of his office. He was the eighth governor in United States history to be impeached and the first in 21 years.  Check these papers for more details.

Blagojevich now joins these seven U.S. governors who have  been impeached and removed from office.  According to The Boston Globe, they include:

WILLIAM W. HOLDEN of North Carolina, 1871.

DAVID BUTLER, Nebraska’s first governor, 1871.

WILLIAM SULZER, New York, 1913.

JAMES E. FERGUSON, Texas, 1917.

JOHN C. WALTON, Oklahoma, 1923.

HENRY S. JOHNSTON, Oklahoma, 1929.

EVAN MECHAM, Arizona, 1988.
