Compassionate Creations
August 23rd, 2008. Filed under: Sewing on Saturday.Sewing, crocheting, knitting or any of the other needle arts can be used as a gift of compassion for others. There are many worthwhile causes out there. You already know that the Cheyenne River Reservation has a hold on my heart. We are busy with mittens, hats, blankets and other items to provide a little warmth during harsh South Dakota winters.
My American Sewing Guild is concentrating on cancer comfort caps during the month of September. The comfort cap was designed by a Minnesota milliner to be worn to protect the tender scalp of those undergoing chemotherapy. You can find patterns to download on the Husqvarna Viking site. You can find a pattern for chemo turbans at sewing.org.
Another area of needs are the premature babies. Preemie patterns can be found at God’s Tiny Angels. These are for charity use only. Bev has preemie patterns for sewing, crocheting and knitting. You can find instructions on making preemie blankets at AZB4K.
There are many other opportunities for charitable stitching and needle arts. We will touch on others at a later date. What compassionate creations are you making and for whom?
