George Who?

February 21st, 2011. Filed under: Monday's Musings.

George Washington, also known as the father of the USA. George was born on February 22, 1732.  How many of you all know that?  Most people think “Yea!  It’s Presidents Day and we get a day off.”

His birthday was lumped together with that of Abraham Lincoln in 1971.  That made it nice and convenient for everyone.  Now we have a three day weekend.

The above picture is not one of the usual ones we think of when we picture George Washington. This one places him in his Continental Army uniform.

Before he was the first president of the United States, he was an American general as well as the Commander in Chief of the colonial armies in the American Revolutionary War.

He then served as President of the 1787 Constitutional Convention prior to serving as president of the US for eight years.

Take time today to consider the beginnings or our republic.  Be thankful we had people like George leading the way.
