Spirited Heroine Will Win Readers’ Hearts in New Series
Set in 1895, Making Waves, by debut author Lorna Seilstadis the first book in the Lake Manawa Summers series.
When spunky Marguerite Westing discovers that her family will summer at Lake Manawa in 1895, she couldn’t be more thrilled. It is the perfect way to escape her agonizingly boring suitor, Roger Gordon. It’s also where she stumbles upon two new loves: sailing, and sailing instructor Trip Andrews.
But this summer of fun turns to turmoil as her father’s gambling problems threaten to ruin the family forever. Will free-spirited Marguerite marry Roger to save her father’s name and fortune? Or will she follow her heart–even if it means abandoning the family she loves?
She certainly knows how to make waves. Marguerite is anything but 1895 socialite her mother would like. She isn’t a bit interested in boring ole Roger who is the wealthy stick in the mud that her mother wants her to marry.
When her father declares that they are going to spend the summer at Lake Manawa, she’s thrilled to be able to escape from Roger. We’ll see how that goes.
To make the summer at the lake even more inviting, she’s fallen in love with sailing and works to finagle her way into sailing lessons. That is definitely a no no for proper young ladies.
But the summer is not all one of fun and games as she imagines. Still, it’s never dull. Sometimes the excitement is just a little too much for the family.
Will her mother be able to reel Marguerite in at the end of the summer and see her married to Roger? Or will Marguerite march to her own drummer – or maybe we could say paddle her own canoe?
