Transitions

July 25th, 2009. Filed under: This & That.

I’ve gone and done it!  I’ve committed myself to running over to the mainland five nights a week.  I’ve struggled through working day shift on weekends for three years now, and I just couldn’t do it any longer.  I worked nights for over 20 years and my body has suffered through these days.  The day shift sounded like the ideal – if you’re a day person.  Work 24 hours every weekend and get paid for 32 with full time benefits.

My body functions best at nights.  My blood sugar levels are at normal levels.  My blood pressure is normal.  I’ve lost a few pounds without trying.  I have energy.  And all this when I’ve only been filling in on nights once or twice a week for the last four weeks.  I’ve been allowed to transfer to the full time night position.  I no longer have to force my body to function on days when it wants to sleep.  I will now have every weekend off.  I’ve wanted to go to church for three years.  I think this is the thing I’ve missed most.

Days are for taking a little swim, sitting under the palms, watching the waves and reading a little before going inside to bed early afternoon.  After today, I’ll be saying, “Good morning,” about 2230.

congratulations on getting the ‘normal’ shift 🙂
If it wern’t for boys and school starting back up soon,
I’d be getting a lot more done at night too.
