Nurses and Patients

May 18th, 2009. Filed under: Monday's Musings.

It’s much easier to be one or the other, but to be both?  Not so easy.  I came back from the mainland a day early.  I’ve been swimming in the slough and morass of bronchitis.  I’m really trying to be a good patient, but it’s much easier to be the nurse.  I’m taking my medications, taking in an adequate amount of fluids, eating a bit, taking lots of naps and checking my blood sugar more frequently.

So now I’m both the nurse and the patient.  I’m already getting tired of being my own nurse.  I’m an impatient patient.  I have to drag back over to the mainland tomorrow for a mandatory in-service.  I don’t think I’ll be magically healed by morning.  Maybe the boss will either take pity on me (or everyone else who has to breathe the same air), and send me home early.  I don’t think that will happen, but I can dream.

And while I’m having that little unrealistic daydream, I’m going to go indulge in one of my comfort foods, Bird’s custard.
