Mucho Macho
June 23rd, 2008. Filed under: Monday's Musings.I’ve been trying to consume less gasoline when I drive, but I feel as if I’m in a very small minority. I’ve driven a small car nearly thirty years, so you know I’m used to being part of a minority group. But I still feel as if there just aren’t many others out there concerned enough about our rising fuel costs and availability to change their driving habits. Boy, are people behind you at a red light unhappy when you don’t take off with a jack rabbit start when the light changes. And they’re pissed off if you see a yellow light and slow down rather than speeding up and ignoring the signal. In town drivers get annoyed with you, but out on the highway, they try to blow you off the road. I seem to be noticing more and more drivers lane jumping back and forth, mostly without using a signal to warn you. Also, if I happen to only be going 65 in a 65 zone, when they cut in front of me, I have to brake to keep from hitting them. I guess they are going so fast that they think I’m pedaling along at 45 or 50 and they have plenty of time to make the lane change. What amazes me most are the vehicles flying along at 80 and 90 mph. They are nearly all big gas guzzlers. These people must have more money than sense. Do they not realize just how many more tanks of fuel they have to use to run those huge pickups, SUV’s and Hummers up and down the road? Have any of you noticed this happening where you live and drive? You can go here to see what Consumer Reports has to say about driving green. Are you trying to conserve fuel and live a more frugal and green lifestyle? I’d really like your input. Thank you.

i drive a gas guzzler. not by choice but because thats what we have that the whole family will fit in.
to save money I try to stay home (not a hardship for me)
if I have to go somewhere I get as many errands done in the one trip out as possible.
also I’m useing a clothes line now instead of the dryer. (saves electricity)
DS14 was horrified when he found out I’d hung his underwere out there!!!!
‘for the whole neighborhood to see!!!’

At least he’s modest. Eventually he’ll figure out that the rest of the neighborhood wears underwear, too. I wish I could have a clothes line. It’s not allowed in my community. I’m seriously thinking about getting one of those folding clothes racks and setting it up in the bath tub.

I have one of those folding clothes racks
they sell them at K-mart but IMO don’t
get the wooden one if you want durability.
shirts and dresses can be put on hangers and
hung over the shower curtain rod to dry
if you don’t have a shower curtain just open
one side of the shower door.
do you have a hidden spot in your yard for
a clothes umbrella?

I don’t really have any hidden space. People in a couple other homes can look out their windows and see my back yard. I’ll start out with the shower rod while looking at the racks to see if I can find anything halfway sturdy. I can’t use Consumer Man’s shower rod as it’s almost at ceiling level and I would have to get my stool or little step ladder out. And as I’m typing that I can see that was a lame excuse. It really won’t take all that much time to use the little stool. I keep it in a closet just across the hall from that bathroom. Thanks, Nova. You’ve given me a good start on freedom from my dryer. It won’t have that nice outdoors freshness smell, but it will certainly make my budget smile a little.

do you have a garage? you could hang clothes in the garage and open the door for outdoors freshness. Just remember to remove the clothes before CM tries to park there 🙂
my clothes line is being rained out for the second day in a row.
I’m considering a garage line….

No garage – carport open for the whole world to view. I have a few obstacles in my effort to live a more frugal, greener lifestyle, but I’m determined. My mother’s preferred term for that quality in me was hardheaded. lol
