The Bargain

By Stephanie Reed

Book one in the Plain City Peace series.

It’s 1971, and Betsie Troyer’s peaceful and predictable life is about to become anything but.

When their parents flee the Amish, nineteen-year-old Betsie and her seventeen-year-old sister Sadie are distraught. Under the dubious guidance of a doting aunt, the girls struggle to keep the secret, praying their parents will return before anyone learns the truth-a truth that may end all hopes of Betsie’s marriage to Charley Yoder.

ISLAND BREEZES

An Amish woman working in and English harness shop, and living in an English home. It’s incredible that the bishop actually allowed it.

Betsie made a bargain with her cousin to learn the harness making trade so that when he returned from Chicago and his hospital service, she could teach it to him. As a topper, Betsie’s parents decide to follow Jesus, and leave the Amish, moving to a distant city. Betsie’s heart is certainly in a turmoil.

While working at the harness shop, she discovers just how unconventional the Sullivan family really is. Betsie has lots of new experiences while there -some good, some not so good.

All she really wants is to go home and marry Charlie Yoder. Well that and for her parents to come back home.

I’m really looking forward to the next book in the Plain City Peace series. Thank you Ms Reed.
